Description

LARGE FOLDING DIRK KNIFE BY WRAGG. The slender, 10 1/2" blade marked on the left flat "MADE FOR THE UNITED STATES BY SAMUEL C. WRAGG/DIRK KNIFE MAKER No. 25 FURNACE HILL SHEFFIELD". Partial marking still visible on tang "WRAGG'S IMPROVED...". German silver bolsters with the pommel end stamped with American Eagles on both sides. The handle with ivory scales, an escutcheon plate and six proud assembly pins. Overall length when fully opened 16". Original brown leather sheath that protects the portion of the blade that remains exposed and usable when the the knife is in the folded position. Condition quite good with blade being full and with typical scattered pitting. Ivory handle slabs with small losses around some of the assembly pins(easily restored if so desired). Ex. collection Norman Flayderman. Illustrated page 66 in Rankin's "Small Arms of the Sea Services" and on page 32 in Flayderman's "The Bowie Knife, Unsheathing an American Legend".
