FINE AND DESIRABLE PIPE TOMAHAWK with a file branded haft that's fitted with a pewter cap and mouthpiece and inlaid with diamonds and two bands all made from german silver. Beautifully made 6" head with an octagonal bowl, nice file detailing and engraved on both sides of the blade with star and other designs. Overall length 14". Condition excellent. Circa 1st quarter of the 19th century. Illustrated on page 164 in Hartzler & Knowles "Indian Tomahawks...", page 31 in Baldwin's "Tomahawks, Pipe Axes of the American Frontier". Also illustrated on pages 73 & 335 in Wilson's book "Steel Canvas".
