Battle and Whaling Scenes


POLYCHROME COLORED SCRIMSHAW TOOTH decorated on one side with a sea battle between American and British ships.  Both vessels flying their country's flag. Red and green/blue highlights on the flags and in the sea. Reverse with an active sperm whaling scene that depicts an American whale ship and four whaleboats capturing several whales. Scene lightly colored with red and blue/green ink. 6 3/4" long. Condition good noting some typical age cracks that are on the surface only and are completely stable. Good age color throughout. Circa 1840.
