Polychrome Whaling Scenes
Description

EXECUTED BY A NAVAL ENGAGEMENT ENGRAVER. One of two teeth(also see W 1940) executed by the same hand using teeth from the same whale. This tooth is the same shape as W 1940 but a bit smaller being from a different section of the jaw. It is also custom fitted with an identical silver base cap. Both sides decorated with finely executed whaling scenes that are polychrome colored. Each side with port views of a whaling bark and her whaleboats engaged in sperm whaling. The bark flies its house flag with the letter "B" denoting reference to the vessel owner Daniel Bennett. Excellent condition. 7"l.
