EARLY SCRIMSHAW CARVED TOOTH DECORATED BOTH SIDES WITH AMERICAN SHIPS. Both sides depicting what appear to be naval ships, one with a single row of gun ports and the other with a double row. Both are port views of the vessels flying American flags that are colored red. 6 3/4" l. Condition very good having just typical but sound age cracks one expects to find on a nice early tooth. This tooth is by the same hand as an example from the JFK collection that is illustrated on page 67 in the JFK collection book. Also another example by this artist was sold by Eldred in 2017 as part of the Mittler Collection(lot 69). That tooth sold for $12,000.00.
